Change is never easy. But, looking back on the year and the many changes at the Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Benning, our team has risen beyond exception to meet the challenges at hand, focused on the objective of providing the best trained Soldiers for the Maneuver Force while simultaneously moving forward on many of our strategic initiatives. It truly has been a whirlwind of a year.

Some of the highlights include officially welcoming our Armor and Cavalry brothers-in-arms, pairing our large units with counties surrounding Fort Benning in a community partnering initiative, and moving forward on several strategic initiatives to include the Squad: Foundation of the Decisive Force. We also saw a surge in the renewal of the Spirit of Fort Benning as we brought Doughboy Football back to Fort Benning, dedicated the MCoE Headquarters as McGinnis-Wickam Hall in honor of two junior leaders from Armor and Infantry who are Medal of Honor recipients, and unveiled a Maneuver Hall of Heroes initiative in every building we teach in, which honors great American heroes who gave their last full measure of devotion for their country.

Catching the Spirit of Fort Benning and honoring and remembering those who have come before us reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice made by other Soldiers and the seriousness of this profession. For ours is a Profession of Arms, not a profession simply because we say it is; it is a professional status granted by the society we serve. And each of you has served with incredible vision, innovation and excellence this year.

This holiday season, as we mark 93 years of holiday celebrations at Fort Benning, Patti and I wish each of you a joyous time with your family, friends and loved ones. Thank you for your dedication to our profession and thank you for your selfless service and commitment to our nation. Each of you is a vital part of the team at Fort Benning.

As you enjoy the holidays season, please also remember to keep those Soldiers who are away from their families serving around the world in your thoughts and prayers. I look forward to serving with you in 2012. One Force, One Fight!
