Desmond Simmons came off the bench to score a team-high 13 points and pull down eight rebounds to help lead the Washington Huskies to a 74-51 win over the Cal State Northridge Matadors in non- conference action at Alaska Airlines Arena.
Starters Tony Wroten and Terrence Ross both tallied 12 points for the Huskies (6-5), while Aziz N'Diaye accounted for 11 points and seven rebounds in just 16 minutes in relief.
The only double-digit scorer for the Matadors (3-7) was Stephan Hicks who dropped in 13 points on only 3-of-14 shooting from the field. Stephen Maxwell accounted for nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the losing cause.
Washington scored the first points of the night and never looked back and held a 38-19 lead at the break after limiting the visitors to a mere 4-of-25 shooting from the field and 0-of-6 behind the three-point line.
In the second half CSUN made good on a total of just nine field goals which left the team suffering the lopsided loss.
The Huskies ended up with 20 turnovers, which was just two fewer than the Matadors.
