Update on 2012 SEC schedule

Published: December 27, 2011

TAMPA - We're still waiting for the SEC to release the 2012 schedule, and that could come any day now. Or any minute. In any case, whatever snag occurred last week to delay the release, it apparently didn't have to do with Georgia.

It is all but official, based on talking to someone with knowledge of the schedule talks, that Georgia will not play Alabama next year. A trip to Missouri early in the season (probably Sept. 8, the second week) will replace the previously-scheduled trip to South Carolina, which will be moved to midseason (probably Oct. 5, the sixth week).

And it's not expected that much if anything will change with the rest of Georgia's original 2012 schedule. The four non-conference games are expected to stay where they were.

Interestingly, however, other SEC teams apparently have had to reach out to non-conference opponents to see about games being moved. That may be what's holding up the league revealing the schedule.

Here's what Georgia's 2012 schedule would look like, assuming the above:

Sept. 1: Buffalo
Sept. 8: at Missouri
Sept. 15: Florida Atlantic
Sept. 22: Vanderbilt
Sept. 29: Tennessee
Oct. 6: at South Carolina
Oct. 13: at Kentucky
Oct. 20: Open
Oct. 27: vs. Florida in Jacksonville
Nov. 3: Ole Miss
Nov. 10: at Auburn
Nov. 17: Georgia Southern
Nov. 24: Georgia Tech
