Mike Scott scored 17 and Darion Atkins added 13 points as 23rd-ranked Virginia blew past Maryland-Eastern Shore, 69-42, at John Paul Jones Arena.

Joe Harris tallied 10 points for the Cavaliers (11-1), who have won nine in a row. Virginia, which was coming off a two-game road trip with victories against Oregon and Seattle, shot 50 percent from the field Tuesday night.

"I thought we got a nice lift from our bench. We got our young guys a lot of minutes," Virginia coach Tony Bennett said. "When we can sit some of our older guys that's good, especially with three games in a short amount of time. It was nice to see some activity and some liveliness on the glass."

Hillary Haley had 11 points to pace the Hawks (3-10), who lost a tough 64-60 contest at Air Force on December 17. The Hawks shot just 27.8 percent from the field.

"We came out a little bit in awe," UMES coach Frankie Allen said. "They're No. 23. When you play teams like UVa, you're stepping it up a level. I think our guys were a little bit shell-shocked."

Scott's dunk capped a game-opening 9-0 burst before the Hawks closed the gap to three later in the half. UMES, though, went only 8-of-29 from the field over the first 20 minutes and trailed 30-20 at the half.

Virginia began the second half with a 12-3 burst, capped by a Scott layup. UMES didn't get closer than 17 the rest of the way.
