Well, folks, we're embarking on another year and that means resolving either to start doing good things or to stop doing bad things. I don't know why the changing of the calendar makes us feel so determined to change our lives, but it does. Accept it.
I'm pretty sure I do this throughout the year, too. I always feel like there's something I should be doing or learning or stop doing. Constantly changing, I am.
Among all the other ways I'd like to improve myself this year, I have a few pop-culture related resolutions to add to the mix.
1) Finish re-watching "Mad Men" before the fifth season premieres in March. I vowed to do this months ago and I've made it through the first three. Holidays, other activities and the normalization of my husband's work schedule (he hates the show) have prevented me from completing the task thus far. I still have a couple of months, though, so it's definitely doable.
2) Read the books I already own. My husband and I both love going to Barnes and Noble just to browse. But usually the browsing turns into buying and while we have a pretty impressive library, we've also got a stack of unread books that we keep adding to. I'd like to read what I've got before I buy any more. On a related note, I just picked up Tina Fey's "Bossypants" (yeah, yeah, I'm a little late to the game) and I can't wait to start it.
3) Watch "Breaking Bad." We got the first three seasons on DVD for Christmas and should have plenty of time to catch up by the time the fourth season hits DVD. The fifth and final season has not yet started filming.
4) Tackle "Harry Potter." I have a serious pop culture deficit in Harry Potter. Since I don't own the books (see number 2), I'll probably watch the movie series.
5) Go to a concert. The last concert I attended was when Kelly Clarkson came through Columbus a couple of years ago, but it was far removed from the concert-going experience I'm used to. Thanks to a just-because gift from my dad, the Hubby and I will be going to see Dropkick Murphys in Atlanta in March. (This was an easy one to check off early!)
