Rambo set to return for senior year

ATHENS - On the same day that Georgia lost its tight end to the NFL draft, the team found out it is keeping its All-American safety.

Junior Bacarri Rambo has decided to come back for his senior year, according to Alan Ingram, his coach at Seminole County High School. Ingram said he spoke to Rambo and Rambo’s mother on Wednesday.

“Bacarri is staying at Georgia,” Ingram said.

UPDATE: Georgia confirmed later on Wednesday that Rambo is indeed returning.

The deadline to enter the draft is Sunday, so Rambo could always change his mind. But Ingram didn't think that would happen.

"He was firm when I talked to him," Ingram said.

Rambo was named a first-team All-American by the AP after leading the SEC with eight interceptions. But he received only a grade of third round at best from the NFL draft advisory committee.

Ingram called Rambo “a pretty level-headed kid.”

“He just don’t think third round or whatever (he should stay),” Ingram said. “He feels like he’ll be at least behind the Alabama safety (Mark Barron). If he’s not gonna be first round or early second, then he needs to stay and get his education. Of course I’d lean toward education anyway.”

Junior tight end Orson Charles announced on Wednesday that he was leaving early for the draft.

Meanwhile, Rambo is one of many juniors who has been considering the draft. His fellow safety Shawn Williams, also a junior, is among them. Ingram, who knows Williams too because of the proximity to Williams’ hometown, said he thinks Williams will also return.
