Crime blog: The sad truth

Published: January 24, 2012

The following report is sad and bereft of humor:

Reports state a Columbus police officer was on Broadway early Sunday when he saw a Benjamin Santana Jr., 26, grab a 23-year-old woman by her left wrist. She fell to her knees and complained about her wrist hurting, but she wouldn't get medical treatment.

The officer stopped the guy, who started yelling and cursing at everyone around him. The officer then charged Santana with a city ordinance violation of disorderly while intoxicated, reports state.

The woman said she wouldn't pursue any charges against Santana and she left the area before she signed a waiver of prosecution, police said.

Santana was booked into the Muscogee County Jail. He made his $212.50 bond and was released the same day, jail records state.
