ATHENS - Chester Brown wasn't the highest-rated or best-known recruit on Georgia's board, but he was still an important one.

And now he's a former one. Brown has de-committed from the Bulldogs, under some fairly murky circumstances.

Brown, who was rated a three-star recruit out of the Bradwell Institute in Hinesville, has told several other media outlets that it was personal reasons, without getting more specific. His future destination is unknown.

In any case, he's apparently not going to end up at Georgia, which now finds itself down to just three offensive line recruits. One of them, junior college transfer Mark Beard, is already enrolled. The major one is John Theus of Jacksonville, Fla., who will be a candidate to start immediately at left tackle. Greg Pyke, a four-star recruit out of Baltimore, is the third one.

Because of depth troubles, Brown (6-5, 355) was a candidate to play right away at Georgia. The loss of Brown could be more than offset if Georgia is able to land Avery Young, a 6-foot-6 tackle prospect out of Florida. It also won't be surprising to see Georgia make some late offers to offensive line prospects.

There's a bit more clarity on Brown's situation. According to a source, Brown was not going to be admitted to UGA because of problems with his student documentation. Brown is a native of Samoa.

UGA officials declined comment, citing privacy rules. A call to Brown's high school coach was not returned.
