Columbus police made another copper theft-related arrest Tuesday at a recycling center, reports state.

Gregory Dale Lockhart, 46, is charged with attempted theft by deception, theft by receiving, giving a false statement of ownership, giving false information and a drug accusation, reports state.

According to police, officers responded to All American Metals, 1530 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., about 1:15 p.m. When they arrived, they were told that Lockhart tried to sell an air-conditioning coil worth $3,500 that didn’t belong to him.

Reports state that Lockhart signed a statement claiming ownership of the A/C coil. The coil actually belongs to Thurman Realty.

Police say Lockhart told officers his name was Terry King. Officers found Lockhart’s real name on his ID when they searched him. Officers also found a glass smoking device on Lockhart with suspected crack cocaine residue in it.

Lockhart’s arrest is the fourth such case police have made against suspected copper thieves. Tommy Gary, 48, Anthony Robinson, 52, and Aundray Robinson, 53, were arrested Saturday at ABC Metal Recycling, 1750 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

Police accuse Gary of trying to sell a disassembled air-conditioning unit. However, the unit had markings on it developed by the city’s copper task force. Recycling center employees then asked Gary where he got the unit. Gary, who’d already signed paperwork claiming he owned the A/C unit, refused to answer.

About two hours after Gary’s arrest, police responded to a burglary on Cusseta Road. A witness told officers he saw two men in a white pickup truck take a stove and refrigerator from an unoccupied home. After loading the items in their truck, they drove away, reports state.

Police identified the two burglary suspects as the Robinsons. According to reports, the Robinsons drove the truck to ABC Recycling, claimed ownership of the stove and refrigerator and sold both. Officers found the Robinsons at the recycling center and arrested both of them.
