A jury of seven men and one woman have found Pvt. Nathan J. Smajda not guilty.
The 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team soldier was charged in the April 9 beating of former soldier Eric Gutliph.
He was charged with aggravated battery in the 2:30 a.m. incident at First Avenue and 11th Street and faced a charge of assault with intent to commit grievous bodily injury by the military.
