CPAC launches yearlong ICARE campaign

Fort Benning has a new ICARE program, but this one’s got nothing to do with people’s vision.

The Civilian Human Resource Agency’s South Central Region has launched a 12-month customer service program designed to create a culture in which managers, supervisors and employees seek out human resources services and personnel fully invest themselves in their work. The yearlong themed approach is based on 12 supporting behaviors.

Civilian Personnel Advisory Center officials gathered Thursday for a kickoff ceremony.

“This is really a great opportunity for us,” said CPAC human resource specialist Barbara Summers. “It’s our desire to meet the needs of our customers, and we have a great team here. This will help management maximize their efforts in a day of constraint. We can make a positive difference in someone’s life.”

She said the campaign’s main objective is to support the CHRA strategic initiatives of customer service, communications and customer-focused organization. ICARE consists of five standards: integrity, compassion, advocacy, resourcefulness and excellence.

Soldiers, their Families, Army civilians, and the post’s internal and external workforce stand to benefit from the new approach, Summers said.

“The purpose of ICARE is to create a culture of customer excellence,” she said. “ICARE is designed to build a cohesive team at Fort Benning with all interlocking gears functioning together smoothly to support the mission.”

She said the five standards are linked to associated behaviors. This month’s focus on integrity is backed by attitude. The first phase actually began Jan. 15 and continues through Feb. 15.

George Steuber, the deputy garrison commander, praised the initiative and said it should strengthen customer-service skills throughout Fort Benning.

“It’s all about caring for folks. You’re the experts who are going to help them with something they need,” he said during Thursday’s ceremony. “ICARE is going to teach you about great customer service. It doesn’t come natural to many people … but it’s infectious. I think they’re going down the right path on this.”
