Harvey-Clemons picks Georgia (but hasn't signed yet)

ATHENS - The outside linebacker position has become quite loaded at Georgia.

Josh Harvey-Clemons, the top-rated overall prospect in Georgia according to three web sites, announced for the Bulldogs just now.

He joins Jordan Jenkins, the top-rated prospect according to 247sports, another outside linebacker who committed last month.

Georgia also got Ray Drew last year. And it still has Jarvis Jones, the consensus all-American, back for at least one more season, as well as Cornelius Washington.

The Bulldogs are also hoping to get Josh Dawson, who had been committed to Vanderbilt. He's set to announce later in the hour.

So how does Georgia make room for all these guys? We'll ask defensive coordinator Todd Grantham about that in a few hours.

UPDATE: An intriguing thought is Harvey-Clemons at receiver. He actually played that at Lowndes High School, and Georgia head coach Mark Richt mentioned just now to ESPNU that he's a very good receiver.

Richt told my friend Cara Capuano of ESPN that they like Harvey-Clemons as a receiver inside the red zone.

"We may need to use his talents inside 20," Richt told ESPN. "He has such great leaping ability and strong hands."

I don't know how serious Georgia is about that, especially with the depth at receiver. But considering the Bulldogs have only signed one receiver in this class, it's a possibility.

UPDATE: The drama isn't over. Harvey-Clemons hasn't faxed in his letter-of-intent, and Richt was dodgy about him during his press conference.

The first question Richt fielded was about the Harvey-Clemons announcement and how excited it made him.

"We were extremely excited about that announcement, I can promise you," Richt said.

But he left it at that. And the next couple times he was asked about it, Richt avoided specifically mentioning Harvey-Clemons, because coaches cannot comment publicly on recruits until they sign.

Richt did comment on ESPNU earlier in the day, however. At that point he may have thought an LOI was on the way.
