Auburn football, national signing day: Capsule analysis of Tigers' 2012 signing class

Signees: 19

Starters lost off/def: 4/2

Top needs: Offensive line, wide receiver, linebacker

Gem of the class

Offensive tackle Avery Young, a 6-foot-5, 292-pounder, filled a big hole in Auburn’s only major position of need. Rated a five-star recruit, Young has the athleticism to be a big-time player.

Central quarterback Jonathan Wallace, believed to be a Central Florida commit going into national signing day, accepted a Monday offer from Auburn and added a second quarterback to the Tigers’ signing class.

Immediate impact players

Joshua Holsey CB 5-11 175 Creekside High (Fairburn, Ga.)

For several years, Auburn’s defensive backs have struggled to make plays on the ball, but Holsey has plenty of ball skills. He had 24 interceptions in three years at Creekside High.

Ricardo Louis WR 6-2 210 Miami Beach (Fla.) High

At 6-2, 210 pounds, Louis has the size and speed to get deep, but he also has the open-field skills of a high school quarterback and running back, and Auburn needs receivers.

Jovon Robinson RB 6-1 220 Wooddale High (Memphis, Tenn.)

Michael Dyer’s transfer leaves an opening for a bruiser at running back, and the 6-1, 220-pound Robinson has the size to fill that role immediately after rushing for more than 5,000 yards in high school.

JaQuay Williams WR 6-4 204 Sandy Creek High (Tyrone, Ga.)

The top receiver in the state of Georgia, Williams could be a factor for playing time in a receiving corps that lacks dynamic options opposite proven No. 1 Emory Blake.
