There are a lot of things to do, arts-wise, in the new few weeks, and if you want to go, you might want to buy tickets now.
At the Columbus Museum
The Columbus Museum, 1251 Wynnton Road, is holding a lot of events with the “Sound & Vision” photography exhibit of the top musicians in the world.
The Art Safari, 1-3 p.m. Feb. 11, is an interactive family tour of the museum. You can create make-and-take art projects and take part in gallery activities. It’s for children ages 7 and older. It’s free, but you must pre-register.
The registration period is over, but call to see if there are slots still available.
The Battle of the Bands, 6-9 p.m. Feb. 11, features six middle and high school bands who will compete for the title. It’s the first time the museum has sponsored such an event. It’s free.
The Reel-to-Reel Film Series, 6-8 p.m. Feb. 16, features the movie, “Rejoice and Shout.” The 2010 documentary traces the history of gospel in the United State. It’s free.
Art & Soul, 6-8 p.m. Feb. 23, features Ed Cox, a local musician and historian, who talks about music history, using music and stories. It’s free.
An Evening with Chuck Leavell, 6-9 p.m. Feb. 28. Chuck Leavell is one of the most sought-after pianists and keyboardists in the world, having worked with the Rolling Stones, the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton and the late George Harrison. His sister, Judy Leavell, can often be seen on the Springer Opera House stage. Leavell will play many of the hit songs he’s performed with those groups and talk about some of the back-stage antics. Seating is limited. Tickets are $30; $25 for museum members.

New Tuskegee show
My friend Dyann Robinson, who runs the Tuskegee Repertory Theatre, has written a new show, “Toussaint,” which is about Toussaint L’Ouverture, the man who is often called “the father of the Haitian revolution.”
It stars former Tuskegee mayor Johnny Ford as Toussaint. I’ve seen him in a couple of shows and he’s quite good.
The show is 8 p.m. EST Feb. 10-11 and 4 p.m. EST Feb. 12 in the Jessie Clinton Arts Centre, 201 S. Main St., Tuskegee. It’s very easy to find. Once you’re in Tuskegee, it’s in the old post office.

Last chance to see Riverdance
A couple of months ago, RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, announced that Riverdance, the Irish step-dancing phenomenon, will be doing it’s final U.S. tour, and it will make a stop in the Bill Heard Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18.
Tickets are $35-$55.
I spoke to Padraic Moyles Monday and I could have listened to him forever. That Irish accent would melt anyone.
If you get to speak to him after the show, here’s a hint: His name is pronounced Poor-ic.
