ATHENS - Freshman cornerback Nick Marshall has also been dismissed from the Georgia football team, his high school coach told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday morning.
UPDATE: Georgia confirmed the news of Marshall's dismissal, along with two teammates. Story above.
Wilcox County head coach Mark Ledford, who coached Marshall in high school, said he wouldn't officially comment on the situation right now. Although he did say he didn't know anything about the situation until he heard some rumors Thursday afternoon.
According to multiple sources, Marshall and freshman receiver Sanford Seay - who has also been dismissed, his coach told The Telegraph - were implicated by teammates in a cash theft from a dorm room.
Marshall played in 13 games this year for the Bulldogs, mostly on special teams, finishing with five tackles.
The Wilcox County High School graduate was expected to play a bigger role in 2012, probably as a backup cornerback. He was a four-star recruit out of high school, and as a quarterback led Wilcox County to the GHSA Class A championship as a junior.
For a time, Marshall was also expected to join the Georgia men's basketball team. He didn't end up doing that this season, and it would seem he will be headed to another school now.
