I think this is the third year in a row that Columbus State University theater students are competing in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival finals.
That's a big deal.
Jessica Hill and T.K. Habtemariam won the regional competition and will represent CSU in the National Finals April 19-23 on the Kennedy Center stage in Washington, D.C.
The regionals were held Jan. 31-Feb. 4 at Daytona State College in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Besides Jessica and T.K., Dylan Bollinger won the KCACTF stage management award and the National Festival Fellowship. He will also represent CSU in April. He also placed second in the Barbizon Awards for theatrical design excellence in lighting design for his work as lighting designer for the CSU show "Companeras."
Larry Dooley, the chair, is thrilled. As he should be.
I have not spoken to him yet, but I will when I write a story about how these students will prepare for the national competition.
Megan Dickens was chosen as Best Acting Partner in the competition as well.
The KCACTF involves 18,000 college and university students from across the country.
The Irene Ryan (Granny from "The Beverly Hillbillies") Foundation gives scholarships to outstanding student performances at each regional festival. Students win $500.
Winners (one male and one female) of the competition win $2,500.
