Postseason continues for high school basketball teams

High school basketball teams in Alabama finish their area tournaments tonight. Meanwhile, in Georgia, region tournaments tip off today, including the Region 1-AAAA event, which is being hosted by Northside.

The Central Red Devils will host Auburn tonight at 7 for the Class 6A Area 7 championship game.

The Red Devils won the area regular-season title and the right to host the tournament. They eliminated No. 4 seed Opelika on Friday.

Auburn finished as the No. 3 seed. The Tigers knocked off No. 2 Smiths Station on Friday night.

The Russell County girls knocked off BTW in the Class 5A Area 4 semifinals on Thursday. The Lady Warriors will play at top seed Valley tonight at 6.

All four teams have already clinched berths in the state tournament. Tonight’s winners will host a sub-regional game on Thursday for the girls and Friday for the boys. Tonight’s losers will be on the road.

In the GHSA regionals, teams are trying to get into the final four as four teams from each region qualify for the state tournament.

Northside is hosting the 1-AAAA tournament with girls games tonight and boys games on Tuesday.

The semifinals for both are scheduled for Thursday with the finals on Friday.

Tonight’s games involving local teams have Hardaway playing Bainbridge at 7 and Northside hosting Warner Robins at 8:30 p.m.

The 6-AAA tournament also gets under way tonight with a pair of games. The Shaw girls play at Haralson County at 6, while the Columbus boys play at Haralson County at 7:30 p.m.

In 5-AA, both Jordan teams have already clinched state playoff berths and are idle until Thursday’s semifinals.

The boys won the 5-AA title, while the girls were runners-up.

In 4-A, both Pacelli teams are in first-round games tonight at Chattahoochee County.
