Columbus State University's Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians will host a two-day celebration this week to celebrate the Columbus author's 95th birthday.
McCullers, who died in 1967, was best known for her Southern Gothic novels, "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter," "Reflections in a Golden Eye," and "The Member of the Wedding."
On Friday, the center on Stark Avenue will celebrate with a birthday toast at 5:30 p.m. with Columbus mayor Teresa Tomlinson, who shares McCullers' birthday.
On Saturday, the Columbus Public Library on Macon Road will showcase McCullers' time at February House in Brooklyn, with a 2 p.m. reading by CSU poetry professor Nick Norwood.
At 3 p.m. there will be a screening of Lady of Burlesque, the film adaptation of Gypsy Rose Lee's "G-String Murders."
At 5 p.m., McCullers scholar Cathy Fussell will read from McCullers' novel, "Reflections in a Golden Eye."
At 7:30 p.m. Sherill Tippins' author of "February House," will lecture.
