MACON – For the past couple weeks, there’s been a lot of talk that Georgia may not be done for the 2012 signing class. The Bulldogs have scholarships available, after only signing 19 on signing day and then dismissing three current freshmen a.

But head coach Mark Richt didn’t make it sound like he and his staff are still pressing hard to add to this year’s class – or at least players that could play in 2012.

“We’re certainly working hard on next year’s class,” Richt said on Friday, before speaking to the Macon Touchdown Club. “I mean you never know what can happen between now and the start of the season. We’ve got our eyes and ears open but we’re not actually pursuing a bunch of stuff.”

Then Richt added this:

“You know Jarvis Jones showed up out of the blue this time of the year (in 2010), wanting to transfer. We had room and we brought him in. ... So something like that could happen.”

That could be taken as a reference to Max Garcia, the offensive tackle who is transferring after his sophomore year at Maryland.

Richt can’t comment publicly on recruits, per NCAA rules. But Garcia, who started every game for the Terps in 2011, is originally from Norcross and Maryland head coach Randy Edsall said that Garcia wanted to leave because he was “homesick.”

Georgia needs offensive lineman, after only signing three in this year's class. Garcia is a player who would be able to compete for a starting job in 2013, after sitting out 2012 per NCAA transfer rules.

Incidentally, two members of Georgia’s 2012 class were at Friday’s event: Defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor and outside linebacker Jordan Jenkins. The pair sat next to each other and posed for pictures together.

Also present was receiver Jaquay Williams, who spurned Georgia and Richt on signing day in favor of Auburn. Williams walked in proudly wearing an Auburn hat, but he and Richt exchanged a smile and a handshake.
