ATHENS - Jonathan Taylor is a four-star recruit who has a chance to play this fall. And yet the defensive tackle doesn't get much attention as other Georgia recruits.

A lot of that has to do with Taylor committing last summer, then not wavering. So attention went elsewhere, to guys like Jordan Jenkins, an outside linebacker who happens to think his fellow Georgia signee will have a pretty big impact.

"He gets overlooked a little bit, but I think he's gonna be a hellacious athlete," Jenkins said. "He's like me, he's got so much more room to add muscle. And for his size, he's quick. He can move for a big guy. And he'll add about 30 or 40 pounds, and he'll be hellacious."

I had a chance to catch up with Taylor last week at the Macon Touchdown Club, when Taylor also had a chance to catch up with his new head coach, Mark Richt, who spoke to the club:

Q: Do you expect to play right away, or with JOhn Jenkins and Kwame Geathers up there do you expect to sit and learn?

Taylor: No, the coaches have been telling me that since they're a little low on defensive lineman if I come in (to campus) in shape I could possibly play.

Q: So could you play nose or end?

Taylor: They said I could play three- or five-technique.

Q: What did you do in high school?

Taylor: I played everything on defense. Really on defensive line, I was the nose guard, then I played some defensive end.

Q: What's your weight now:

Taylor: Six-four, 290.

Q: Do you feel like you need to get the weight up any?

Taylor: I'm trying to get my speed and my strength together. But I want to (run) about a 4.6, 4.5.

Q: Jenkins and Geathers, their size is what everybody talks about. Are you a little bit of a different nose tackle?

Taylor: I'm gonna get a little more muscle, but I want to keep the speed.

Q: Last year they were the Dream Team. Have you all gotten together and decided on your name?

Taylor: Yes sir. This year we're gonna be the team that takes it all, that wins it all for Georgia.

Q: So the Ring Team.

Taylor: Yup.

Q: Who coined that?

Taylor: Really all those recruits who got together on Dawg Night (last summer), we came up to Georgia, and we decided we were going to set it as the Ring Team. Most people were calling it Dream Team No. 2, but (we preferred something else).

(Side note: Jenkins later told me that it was John Theus, another of the Dawg Night commitments, who came up with "Ring Team.")

Q: So what's the thinking on the Ring Team, besides obviously winning the championship?

Taylor: Because we've got a bunch of great athletes coming in. We lose Brandon Boykin on defense, but we have a bunch of great players that come in on offense and defense, so we add to the Georgia football program overall.

Q: What was it like sitting up there and watching coach Richt talk about the hot seat, and everyone talking about his job? I mean you committed to him when that heat was coming?

Taylor: I committed to him, and most people were like: 'How do you think y'all are gonna be next year, you think y'all are gonna be good?' I just stayed positive, I was like: Yeah I think we're gonna win a lot next year, we've got a bunch of good athletes coming in. So we've got what it takes to win.
