Federal authorities have charged a military police evidence custodian with stealing about $1,300 in funds that had been recovered after a robbery on post.

Joseph M. Bryan III pleaded not guilty this morning to one felony count of conversion by a federal employee. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bond after a brief appearance before a federal magistrate.

Bryan was indicted on the charge last week. According to the indictment, the theft happened sometime between October and January on post.

Authorities discovered the funds were missing after the robbery victim's family sought to recover the stolen money from evidence. An investigation led authorities to Bryan, and he allegedly admitted to the theft when confronted.

If convicted, Bryan could face up to 10 years in federal prison.
