Happy National Margarita Day, readers. Yep, our favorite lime-flavored tequila drink has its very own holiday. I can't think of a more deserving cocktail. Tonight, head to your favorite Mexican restaurant and order a tasty frozen margarita or make your own drinks at home. Here are a couple of easy recipes. Add some fresh strawberries, raspberries or blueberries to the Basic Margarita to make it your own. Have some juice? Add an ounce of orange or pomegranate juice to the basic recipe.
If you choose to make your own margaritas, skip the store-bought mixes and buy fresh limes. This will help you avoid that mixed-drink induced tummy ache. If tequila gives you a headache, buy a good quality silver tequila and throw out that bottle you've had since college. As always, drink responsibly. No matter how high quality your tequila or how fresh your limes, if you have too many drinks you WILL be hurting.
A margarita tastes better served in a salt-rimmed glass. Take a wedge of lime and run it along the rim of your glass. Tip your empty glass upside down and set the rim of the glass in a small, shallow plate of salt. Twist the glass slightly to get the salt to stick to the rim. Most local liquor stores sell flavored salts if you want to add a little spice to your drink.
