Super Tuesday 2012: All Columbus, Ga. polls open Tuesday

Published: March 5, 2012

All 28 Columbus polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the presidential preference primary, also known as Super Tuesday.

Georgia is one of 10 states holding an election Tuesday, and it’s the biggest prize with 76 delegates for those vying for the Republican nomination.

Super Tuesday elections will hand out one-third of the delegates needed to win the Republican nomination. Candidates need 1,144 delegates to secure the GOP spot. Super Tuesday has 419 delegates up for grabs.

Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Gary Johnson, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Buddy Roemer, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum are on Tuesday’s Republican ballot in Georgia.

Bachmann, Huntsman and Perry have withdrawn from the race, though their names remain on the ballot. Roemer no longer seeks the Republican nomination but instead is campaigning for the nomination from Americans Elect.

President Barack Obama is the only candidate on Tuesday’s Democratic ballot.
