D.D. Dudley, Tito Echeverria deliver for Hardaway in comeback win against Warner Robins

Special to the Ledger-EnquirerMarch 28, 2012

Hardaway fell behind early to Warner Robins but rebounded scoring two unanswered goals to defeat the Demons 2-1 in a key region 1-AAAA contest played at the Woodruff Farm Soccer Complex in Columbus.

With the victory, Hardaway (8-2-2, 3-1) clinched the second seed from the north subdivision of region 1-AAAA and will now play the third seed from the south side of the region in the first round of the region tournament that will take place next month.

The Hawks missed out on a golden scoring opportunity early on in the first half. With the ball in the penalty box, Hardaway lost possession of the ball twice without getting a shot off.

Wasting no time, Warner Robins (4-5-1, 2-1) countered as Matt Monday raced up field and eventually broke the Hardaway backline. With only the goalie to beat, Monday juked to his right and chipped the ball in for the easy goal in the fifth minute.

Hardaway had yet another chance in the 10th minute on a free kick just outside of the penalty box, but the shot attempt was blocked.

Another Hawk free kick occurred in the 15th minute, but this time D.D. Dudley connected on a beautiful upper-90 goal to knot the game at one-all.

Hardaway controlled play for the rest of the half but was unable to find the back of the net.

The Demons came out more aggressive in the second half taking three dangerous shots within the first 10 minutes of play. However, each time Hardaway goalie, David Scott, was up to the challenge turning away all three attempts.

In the 22nd minute, Tito Echevarria took a remarkable spinning shot from about 30-yards out that barley snuck under the top-crossbar for the game-winning goal. Joshua Hudgison recorded an assist on the play.

Trailing by one, Warner Robins put together one last effort to find an equalizer. In the final minute of play, David Taylor had a break away attempt but Scott was somehow able to block the shot in as he was jumping in midair to preserve the key victory.

"David Scott is one of the best goalies in the city", said Hardaway head coach Rick Iden. "He has kept us in every game this season and stepped up big tonight when we needed him."

"We had some amazing shots tonight", added Iden. "We could not have placed them any better."

Iden is now four victories shy of 300 in his career.
