Columbus police are on the scene of an accident on J.R. Allen Parkway near the Schomburg Road exit that sent one driver to the hospital.

Capt. William Turner said a vehicle going eastbound on J.R. Allen crossed the median and struck a tractor-trailer going westbound. The vehicle, a four-door sedan, hit the rear end of the tractor trailer, causing a tire to come off, he said. The tractor trailer tire crossed the median and struck a second car going eastbound, he said.

Turner said the driver of the first car was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The other two drivers were uninjured. He said there were no other passengers in the vehicles.
