College softball postseason awards were announced Thursday with Columbus State and other players with local ties being honored.
Armstrong Atlantic State's April Jowers (Hardaway) was named the Player of the Year for the Southeast Region by Daktronics. She led Division II in hitting at .565.
The two-time Peach Belt Conference player of the year finished her career as the conference's all-time hits leader.
Four players from Columbus State also were honored: Casey Googe (Northside High) and Taylor Turner were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast first team; Morgan Knight (Northside) and Mollie Russell were named to the second team.
Googe, Knight and Russell were named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region team. Googe was first team, while Russell and Knight were second team.
Googe set the school and PBC records for homers in a season with 22.
Knight was second in the PBC in homers with 11.Russell was fourth in the nation with a 0.93 ERA and tied for fourth in shutouts with 14.Turner batted .333 with four home runs.
Georgia College's Haley Burnett (Hardaway) was a Daktronics first-team selection for the second straight year. She batted .347 with seven homers and 41 RBIs.
Jowers and Burnett also made the NFCA first team.
Armstrong Atlantic State's Baillie Temples (Harris County) also was selected for the NFCA second team. She led the Lady Pirates with nine home runs.
