Coloumbus Council to officially recognize renaming of intersection for Jim Wetherington

State Rep. Richard Smith is scheduled to appear before Columbus Council this evening to recognize the formal naming of the interchange at Interstate 185 and the J.R. Allen Parkway for former mayor and police chief Jim Wetherington.

The General Assembly passed a resolution in the last session to rename the intersection for Wetherington, who also served on the State Board of Pardons and Paroles and as head of the state’s Corrections Department.

The legislature also voted in the same resolution to name the intersection of I-185 and Victory Drive for local developer and philanthropist John Flournoy.
