June 2, 2012

LAKE CHARLES, La. -- The Columbus Lions lost to the Louisiana Swashbucklers 61-57 as Louisiana scored a rushing touchdown with 4 seconds left Saturday night.

The Lions went for a field goal and uno to tie but missed the field goal.

Columbus quarterback Randy Hippeard threw eight touchdown passes, including six to Maurice Dupree. London Crawford and Gerald Gales caught the other two.

Two fumbles and an interception cost the Lions severely -- all returned for touchdowns.

Columbus kicker Chandler Brooks made all eight of his PATs and an uno but missed two field-goal attempts.

The Lions and Swashbucklers are now tied at 5-5 for third place in the Professional Indoor Football League, but both teams clinched playoff spots as the Alabama Hammers lost 57-40 to the Richmond Raiders.

The Lions will host first-place Albany Panthers 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Columbus Civic Center.
