Five Columbus Lions receive All-PIFL honors

June 21, 2012

Five members of the Columbus Lions earned All-PIFL honors Thursday, when the Professional Indoor Football League announced the first and second teams.

The Lions have two players on the first team: wide receivers Maurice Dupree and London Crawford.

Dupree is one of four unanimous first-team selections. He led the PIFL's regular season in points scored (242), touchdown receptions (40) and receiving yards (1,278).

Crawford led the PIFL in receptions (103) and was one of three to top 1,000 receiving yards.

The Lions have three players on the second team: quarterback Randy Hippeard, offensive lineman Dion Small and defensive back Cortez Stubbs.

Hippeard was the league's only passer to surpass 3,000 yards this season. He also was first in passing touchdowns (72) and completion percentage (64.5).

Small was a first-team choice in 2010 and 2011 campaigns. Stubbs, a rookie, led the Lions in tackles (39.5) and interceptions (five).

The Lions will play their PIFL semifinal 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Albany Panthers.
