Columbus police charged a mother on Wednesday after her 9-year-old child was found unsupervised, reports state.

Jeanie Luke, 36, of Marietta, Ga. faces a reckless conduct charge in connection with the Wednesday discovery of her child at the Victory Drive Motel 6, police said.

According to reports, officers responded about 1:10 a.m. July Fourth to the motel about someone screaming. When they arrived, they spoke with Luke’s 9-year-old boy. Officers then discovered the only adult present appeared under the influence of a drug. That person was then taken to The Medical Center.

Police say they tried several times to contact the child’s family, though no one could be reached. Police then called the Division of Family and Children Services and were told where to take the boy.

Officers arrested Luke later that day, reports state.
