Just because you missed the official National Daiquiri Day on July 19th is no reason to punish yourself. Go ahead and indulge in a frothy or frozen drink today!
I'm guessing that today's most popular flavor of daiquiri is strawberry but that's based on personal experimentation and not proof of any sort. However, the original daiquiri recipe called for white rum, lime juice and sugar. And I'm sure the banana daiquiri had a good run after fictional Beverly High student Brenda Walsh ordered one with her fake ID in a scene on the original "Beverly Hills 90210."
Accounts vary on the origins of the first daiquiri but my favorite account is that Ernest Hemingway inspired the creation of the frozen variety at El Floridita in Havana in the 1940s.
