A traffic accident on U.S. 80 in Phenix City today has blocked eastbound traffic between Summerville Road and U.S. 431 North.

Columbus police and Phenix City police were on the scene just west of Summerville investigating the crash. Officials couldn't say when the traffic would be flowing again.

The wreck even slowed westbound traffic and jammed intersections nearby with overflowing vehicles.

A row of horse trailers with animals inside was among those caught in the traffic jam. The operators of the trailers were outside trying to keep the horses under control.

Anyone traveling on U.S. 80  should look for an alternate route if possible.
