Mariah Carey will judge the upcoming season of "American Idol," Fox confirmed on Monday.
As the news became official, she tweeted, "It's gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent."
Mariah Carey's name floated around as a rumored judge for quite some time, but I'm a little surprised that those rumors turned into reality.
Here are some of my favorite Twitter reactions to the announcement:
"Mariah's gonna be a great Idol judge. Only she can properly guide a young artist from 'ordinary' to 'slutty McSticky' in 4 years." @iowaradioguy
"Mariah Carey is gonna be pissed when she finds out she can't judge 'American Idol' while sitting on a unicorn or taking a bubble bath." @JennyJohnsonHi5
"Mariah Carey will join American Idol as a judge, which is great since she's basically J. Lo, Paula Abdul, and Steven Tyler rolled into one." @VanityFair
Am I confident in her judging abilities? Sure. Assuming I can forget about this:
