The 1775 Society gala Benning Beginnings at the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center celebrates the relationship between Columbus and Fort Benning.
The evening of fine dining and dancing is scheduled for Saturday, August 18, 2012. A reception and silent auction begins at 6 p.m. Dinner will include pepper-crusted filet mignon, grilled shrimp and a special signature dessert. Dining begins at 7 p.m.
More than 100 items and vacation packages -- including a weekend at a California vineyard, a home stay during the Taste of Charleston, a villa in Italy, handcrafted art and jewelry, authentic autographed memorabilia and dinner at Riverside -- will be available for guests to bid on.
Entertainment will be provided by the Savannah-based band, Jeremy Davis and the Fabulous Equinox Orchestra, known for high-energy stage shows and a fresh approach to big band jazz.
The museums grand hall will be dressed in the style of a Gatsby garden party, in a salute to the transition of Camp Benning to Fort Benning in the early 1920s.
Tickets are $150 per person. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Jane Bayer at 706-685-2604.
