Fort Benning and other installations don’t have to prepare for another round of domestic military base closures under the Base Realignment and Closure Commission for fiscal year 2013, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday.
U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop Jr., a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies and co-chair of the Congressional Military Family Focus, said he’s pleased with the announcement from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.
“It is great news not only for Fort Benning, the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, Robins Air Force Base, and other bases in Georgia, but for service members and their families throughout the entire state,” Bishop said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing my work with my colleagues in the Georgia Congressional Delegation, Governor (Nathan) Deal, and the Georgia Military Affairs Coordinating Committee in strengthening our bases in Georgia.”
