Pound the alarm: Nicki Minaj might really join the "American Idol" judges' panel. Maybe.
On one hand, adding Minaj to the show would likely diversify its audience. On the other hand, I cant help wondering if her comments would offer anything other than shock value. What do you think?
Despite articles like this, TMZ maintains the Minaj deal is far from final. Some rumors suggest new "Idol" judge Mariah Carey wants to be the queen bee on the panel. I'm not surprised.
I'm warming up to the idea of Minaj on the "Idol" panel. I have some concerns about the time commitment that comes with the show. She's still a fairly new artist and I'm not sure it's the best idea to commit to something as big as "Idol" at this point in her career.
Of course, her biggest selling point is the potential to move "Idol" beyond the realm of predictable winners.
She's also relevant enough to put "Idol" on the same level as the judges' panels on "The Voice" and "The X Factor." Then again, relevance is often a double-edged sword on these shows. It leaves room for the possibility that a judge might use "Idol" primarily as a vehicle to promote his or her newest album.
When it comes to critiques, what can we expect from Minaj?
That's the question of the moment. Let's hope viewers talk about something other than her crazy outfits.
