BREAKING DOWN THE PANTHERS

The Good: The Panthers finished the 2011 season winning two of their final four games. One of the two losses in that span was a one-point loss to Taylor County, which finished the season 6-4. A point here and a point there, and Chattahoochee County might have salvaged a .500 season. The Panthers return 15 starters from a year ago, seven on offense and eight on defense.

The Bad: The team lost its first six games of the season, including three shutouts. In the other three losses, it scored just 6, 12 and 14 points. In the recent reclassification by the GHSA, the Panthers were moved up to Class AA.

Our take: After having three coaches in three years, Chattahoochee County will have a bit more continuity in 2012, as Morgan returns to lead the team. With another offseason in the system, the team should be more prepared to compete this season. The Panthers have a completely new schedule as no teams return from the 2011 schedule. The Panthers face preseason Region 5 favorite Bremen in the region opener, so they will learn quickly how they measure up.
