BREAKING DOWN THE GATORS

The Good: The Gators set a team scoring record with 594 points last year. Back to run the Gators' high-octane attack is quarterback Brandon Dailey. He will have Michael Swann at wide receiver. Swann, who won the AHSAA Class 5A state title in the high jump in May, transferred to Glenwood. The featured back will be fullback Luke Dougherty.

The Bad: Glenwood also set a dubious mark as well last season, allowing a team record 380 points. The Gators also lost running back Xavier Bond, who rushed for 2,255 yards and 37 touchdowns last season.

Our take: After an injury-marred regular season in which they went 6-5 and barely made the playoffs, the Gators caught fire in the playoffs, winning a pair of road games before losing to Bessemer in the state title game. Glenwood will need to improve on defense to make another deep postseason run. The Gators get a rematch with Bessemer in the first week of the season.
