BREAKING DOWN THE VIKINGS

The Good: Pacelli brings back 18 starters from a team that got back into the win column in 2011. The team is still very young, five underclassmen will start on offense and seven on defense, but in-game experience has improved. Transfer quarterback Wyatt Peterson, who threw for 12 touchdowns and almost 1,700 yards for Columbus High last year, will help lead the young offense, which averaged just 7 points per game last season

The Bad: The potential hasn't yet translated into wins. Pacelli lost seven in a row to start the 2011 season, and finished the season with back-to-back losses in which an average of 40 points per game were allowed. And, of course, youth will still be a factor in 2012.

Our take: The team certainly appears to be headed in a positive direction. More players have come out for the team, and they buy into the philosophy Grace has presented. Whether that will translate to wins this season is anybody's guess, but the future looks bright.
