A Greencastle, Ind., man died Tuesday evening after he was pulled from the Chattahoochee River, Columbus police said.
Harold M. Brock, 54, was swimming in the river about 6 p.m. when he went under the waters, authorities said.
He just got caught in the current, Lt. Warren Dunlap said. He couldnt get out.
Brocks wife told police she saw her husband disappear under the waters. He remained submerged about five to 10 minutes, reports state.
Several witnesses told police that they advised him not to go in the river because it is too dangerous, police reports state.
Tuesdays apparent drowning is the fifth within a month.
Krystal Brown, 30, and her son Mister Brown, 11 months, died Aug. 13 after she went into the river for her 3-year-old son, David Brown. The 3 year old was rescued and flown to Atlanta, where he died days later, authorities said.
Jarvis Willis, 23, died while swimming with two others Aug. 19. His body was recovered the following day.
