Fort Benning identifies soldier who died after collapsing

A Fort Benning  soldier who died Thursday at St. Francis Hospital has been identified as Spc. Anthony Walter McGill of Walnut, Calif.

McGill, 26, was assigned to the 192nd Infantry Brigade, the post public affairs office said today.

Authorities said the soldier collapsed while on a two-mile run during a physical fitness test  on Tuesday. He was immediately assisted by military personnel and taken to the hospital where he never regained consciousness.

Monica Manganaro, a public affairs spokeswoman at the post, said the death remains under investigation.
