Pacelli 43, Stewart County 14: Peterson, Dawahares light up Royal Knights

Vikings 2-0 for first time since '07

September 14, 2012

The Pacelli Vikings got a huge performance by brothers Jay and Luke Dawahare along with junior quarterback Wyatt Peterson to cruise to a 43-14 victory over Stewart County Friday night at Diemel Field in Columbus. Younger brother Luke Dawahare caught five passes, scored three touchdowns and intercepted a pass on defense while older brother Jay recorded two interceptions and also visited the end zone via a pass from Peterson.

Luke finished the night with five catches for 68 yards.

With the win, Pacelli improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2007.

"Jay Dawahare is a four-year starter and has been through some tough times here at Pacelli," stated Viking coach Randy Grace. "He is one of the foundations of this program and we need players like him to get things going in the right direction."

"This win is huge for us. I can't put it in words how far these kids have come the past two years. Saying that, we still have a long way to go to be in the position that we want to be in," added Grace.

Pacelli wasted no time getting on the board after forcing Stewart County to a three- and-out. Starting their possession on their own 7-yard line, the Vikings kept the ball on the ground and eventually Deandre Bowman broke a 46-yard run to give Pacelli the lead.

After Jay Dawahare's first inception on the following drive, Peterson found Luke Dawahare for a touchdown.

Stewart County had its first sustained drive after the kickoff, but penalties forced the Royal Knights to a third and 19. Under pressure, quarterback Douglas Drake threw a pass up for grabs that Pacelli's Luke Dawahare grabbed for an interception. That set up a drive in which the Vikings marched 72 yards and scored on a Peterson pass to Luke Dawahare that gave Pacelli a demanding 20-0 lead.

Pacelli later used a quick-strike offense scoring two touchdowns in the final minute of the half to put the game out of reach. On the second play after the Viking defense stopped a fourth down play, Peterson found a wide-open Jay Dawahare for a 57-yard touchdown pass.

Following the kickoff, Drake threw his third interception of the half as Jay Dawahare picked off his second pass of the night.
