Edgewood 68, Glenwood 42: No. 1 beats No. 2 in AISA shootout

September 14, 2012

Elmore, Ala.. -- The battle between No. 1 and No. 2 in private schools in Alabama turned into a rout Friday night as top-ranked Edgewood Academy scored 49 points in the first half on its way to 68-42 victory.

The Wildcats were led by Dylan Ingram, whose first-half statistics were 289 yards and five touchdowns passing. Ingram wound up with 336 yards in the air.

In 2011, he threw four TD passes against the Gators but has new targets in 2012 because leading receiver and rusher Same Coleman has graduated.

Taylor Hawthorne got the first quarter started with a 21-yard touchdown, and that was followed by a 24-yard pass to Rod Boykin.

Hawthorne then added a 6-yard run, and the Wildcats led 21-0.

Three more touchdown passes, another to Hawthorne of 34 yards and a pass of 15 yards to John Mark Cosby and an 81-yard pass to Bailey Hansen again kept the scoreboard going.

Crawford, also had an 85-yard touchdown run for a 49-0 lead.

Crawford gained 163 yards on 12 carries in the first half and finished with 239 total rushing yards.

Glenwood mustered only one first down in the first quarter but finally got on the scoreboard just before halftime when Isaiah Bettis ran for a 51-yard touchdown, making it 49-7.

Brandon Daley did what he could do for the Gators and rallied for three more touchdown passes for Glenwood, but it was too little too late.

He finished with 230 yards passing on 9 of 18 passing with three touchdowns and one interception.

The Gators outscored the Wildcats 35-13 in the second half.
