More than 125 soldiers of the 14th Combat Support Hospital is headed to Afghanistan for a nine-month deployment, Fort Benning officials said today.
A ceremony is set for 9 a.m. Monday at Freedom Hall.The unit will deploy a few days later.
Commanded by Col. William S. Drennon, the unit is made up of soldiers from Fort Benning and about 40 medical personnel from across the Army assigned to the 14th.
The unit already has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. Serving as a support unit, the highly mobile unit is equipped to care for up to 248 casualties.
While deployed, the hospital has conducted health support operations, caring for American and coalition forces as well as detainees.
