Valley, Ala. police are searching for a suspect in an early Thursday rape and robbery of a 77-year-old woman.
Police responded about 5 a.m. to the rape and robbery at a 55th Street home, Maj. Mike Reynolds said. They met the resident, who told them a man broke into her home that morning, beat and raped her.
The suspect then took an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing, Reynolds added.
The woman was treated at the George H. Lanier Hospital.
The suspect is a 23- to 25-year-old black man, 5-foot-8 to 5-fooot-10 and 130 to 140 pounds. He wore blue cotton-type pants and black-and-white tennis shoes. Anyone with information should contact police at 334-756-5200 or the Valley Area Crime Stoppers at 1-800-756-8200.
