Led by a quartet of offensive stars, the Northside Patriots overwhelmed Columbus High 47-10 at Kinnett Stadium Friday night.
Junior quarterback Jonathan Karastury tossed four touchdown passes, his first of the season. Senior receiver TJ Moore added three while senior running back Brady Pitts and tight end Tyler Pouliot each contributed two more.
Northside put up a total of 55 points in its first three games combined on its way to a 1-2 record. Columbus High's defensive struggles continue. The Devils have yielded 130 points this season and are winless at 0-3.
Northside built a 19-3 lead after the first period on a variety of scoring plays. The Patriots got on the board with a 4-yard Pitts run, then added six points on Moore's 60-yard jaunt after recovering a fumble. The final score of the first quarter came on Pouliat's 6-yard pass from Karastury.
With Northside leading 26-3 midway through the second quarter, Columbus High assembled its only scoring drive of the evening. After a Patriot punt, the Devils took over on their own 34. It took only 2 plays to cover the 66 yards to the end zone. Dale Williams, Jr. dashed 20 yards on first down and Ivan Rome covered the other 46 yards for the only Columbus High score of the night.
Northside set the offensive tone early as the Patriots drove 73 yards, all on the ground, in seven plays.
Pitts, Karastury and Kendrick Smith shared the workload on the drive that culminated with Pitts' 4-yard run with 8:45 left in the opening quarter.
In the third quarter, with Northside leading 40-10, the starters remained in the game with Pitts, Karastury and Smith seeing action throughout the quarter. Northside scored on a 35-yard Karastury-to-Pouliot pass with 2:06 left in the third to end the scoring.
At the end of the period, coach Paul Cates inserted his reserves.
Under Georgia High School Association rules, the fourth quarter was played with a running clock.
