Wesleyan 17, Brookstone 14: Cougars nipped by coach Brad Dehem's former team on last-play field goal

September 22, 2012

Norcross, Ga. -- Wesleyan's Rhett Delk kicked a 49-yard field goal Friday as time expired to beat Brookstone 17-14.

Wesleyan took a 14-0 lead late into the fourth quarter before Brookstone rallied furiously with two touchdowns in the final four minutes to tie the game.

On both Brookstone touchdowns, Cougars quarterback Duncan Fletcher passed to Drew Lingo (14 and 10 yards).

After tying the game with 1:17 remaining, Wesleyan returned the ensuing kickoff to its 44, setting up the dramatic winning kick a few plays later.

"I couldn't be more proud of our kids," said Brookstone coach Brad Dehem. "We never gave up. But we made mistakes and got down early."
