In a game between Spencer and Jordan, a game which both winless teams wanted to have so badly, it was the Greenwave's Damarkus Robins who stepped up to help deliver the victory.

The junior tailback rushed for 153 yards and two touchdowns to help Spencer (1-3) pick up its first win of the season, 46-14, against Jordan last Friday.

His two touchdowns came on runs of 47 and 44 yards. For his efforts, he has been selected as the Ledger-Enquirer's Football Player of the Week.

The Ledger-Enquirer caught up with Robins on Monday to discuss the performance and the significance of his team's first win.

Question How big was it to get that first win under your belt?

Answer: It was important. It was big. We've been wanting that. We want more wins. We're trying to make it to the playoffs, so we needed that. Now we're 1-1 in our region, and we're just going to do what we've got to do. We had too many little mistakes. I had a muff on a punt return, but we made up for it on defense. But the little mistakes can cost you in big games.

Question: What happened on your two big touchdown runs?

Answer: We ran counters, and we knew they were going to be open …. I made a few cuts, and I knew they weren't going to be able to catch me. … Touchdown. I knew it.
