You may notice some shuffling around on the nightlife scene this weekend.
Local hot spot Mix Ultra Lounge, owned by DJ Roonie G, is relocating to 1040 Broadway -- the space formerly occupied by Oxygen. It will remain an upscale club featuring live DJs and dance music.
An upscale hip-hop/R&B club, Martini's, also owned by DJ Roonie G, will open in Mix's old location, 1107 Broadway. Roonie said Martini's will have an "urban appeal."
Friday marks a soft opening for both establishments, with a grand opening planned for Friday, Oct. 12. Details were still being worked out when I talked to Roonie on the phone this week.
He said that the extra space in Mix's new location will allow him to fulfill the vision he's always had for the club, which includes a bigger dance floor, better lighting and sound systems, videos and a "huge laser" that they weren't able to utilize at the smaller location.
"It's a big milestone to take this to the next level," Roonie said.
By opening Martini's in Mix's original location, Roonie is hoping to accommodate more holiday and birthday parties, as well as expand on a new catering service. Martini's will feature a full-kitchen and will offer appetizers and hors d'oeuvres during happy hour as well as an expanded martini menu.
Both establishments will enforce the dress code already familiar to Mix patrons, are smoke-free environments and will feature VIP sections.
Roonie said he's hoping to bring more entertainment to Columbus, with live jazz bands at Martini's and live DJs at both locations.
