Glenwood 55, Lyman Ward 6: Gators bounce back with rout

Published: September 28, 2012

Glenwood snapped a two-game losing streak as Brandon Daley passed for two touchdowns and Isaiah Bettis ran for two scores as the Gators trounced winless Lyman Ward 55-6 in their homecoming game at Sammy Howard field.

Daley, who suffered a mild concussion last week, came back strong as he passed for 227 yards and threw two touchdowns -- of 80 and 35 yards -- to his favorite receiver Michael Swann.

Backup running back Bettis also did his share. After D'Arrington Walker scored on a 15-yard run, Bettis touched the ball once and went 28 yards for the second score, giving Glenwood at 14-0 lead in the first period.

Daley then hit Swann for 35 yards and his first score, still in the first period, to make it 21-0 and passed to him on the 80-yarder for a 28-0 halftime advantage.

In the meantime, Josh Jeffcoat was pacing the defense as he recovered two Ranger fumbles, the first setting up Walker's score in the first period and a second recovery just before Swann's 80-yard score.

In the second half, Dylan Denny scored on a 49 yard TD before Undriel Copeland broke another run, this one for 33 yards as the Gator offense was in high gear. Bettis then capped it off with a 55 yard score as he led the Gators in rushing with 96 yards on only three rushes and two touchdowns. Backup quarterback Lawson Humphries also scored his first touchdown as a Gator to add to the total.

The Rangers finally got on the scoreboard in the final period when Malcolm Griffin scored on a 30-yard run with two minutes to play.

Glenwood's next game is on the road Thursday night when the Gators travel to Cecil, Ala.
